Hosting Services

A core competency of the BSP business model is the ability to act as an operational extension of the targeted community through the hosting, maintenance and support of software applications. Inline with its BSP vision, Cyence made the strategic decision to construct its own state-of-the-art advanced hosting centers, one in Burlington, Ontario, and the other in Dallas, Texas.

Cyence chose this approach over partnering with an existing network service provider for three reasons:

1. Cyence required a physical hosting presence specifically tailored to the hosting of mission-critical, B2B e-commerce software applications.

2. Service Level Agreements (SLA) from traditional network service providers did not offer the level of performance demanded by the Company's clients.

3. Architecting and designing a physical network infrastructure is one of Cyence's core competencies, reinforcing the Company's one-stop-shop, single point of accountability value proposition.

Cyence engaged IBM Global Services to design, project manage and certify a state-of-the-art advanced hosting centre, resulting in the largest Netfinity / Cisco dedicated commerce data centre in North America. The specifications of the data centre met and, in most cases, exceeded IBM's international data centre standards.

Cyence's high availability offerings combine load balancing with a web server farm to provide fault-tolerant backup and increased system availability. A high availability configuration ensures that if a server or application should unexpectedly fail, another server in the farm can both continue its own work and readily assume the role of the failed server, minimizing downtime to end users. These configurations enable multiple servers to execute against the same application or database. Adding more nodes (processing power) to an existing system enhances scalability, again reducing server disruption.

Cyence offers the server topologies necessary to increase uptime through fail-over coverage of its applications. Additionally, backup and monitoring of customer systems is included in its high availability offerings to ensure uptime. Full backups are done twice daily, while incremental backups are done every 15 minutes. A comprehensive monitoring system performs dozens of detailed system checks every minute.
